Press Release
Rome, February 26, 2025 – The Italian Communications Authority (AGCOM), in collaboration with the media regulators of France, Germany, and Greece, hosted the kick-off meeting of an ambitious twinning project with the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine (NCTVRb). This initiative aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of NCTVRb, promoting the adoption of European best practices in media regulation and the circulation of content on digital platforms.
The project, funded by the European Union, represents a significant step towards Ukraine’s integration into the European media landscape. Through workshops, training sessions, and experience-sharing activities, European partners will provide expertise in key areas such as child protection, combating disinformation and hate speech, and implementing European directives on audiovisual media services.
The cooperation among media regulators is crucial in an era where digital challenges and rapid technological evolution require coordinated responses and common strategies. These efforts are essential for regulating and monitoring the circulation of content by globally operating digital platforms that are not always subject to the legislation of individual EU Member States.
The project has a budget of €1.5 million and a duration of 18 months.
AGCOM President Giacomo Lasorella stated: “This project represents a unique opportunity to strengthen cooperation between our countries and support Ukraine in its path towards alignment with European standards and, in the future, its accession to the EU. We firmly believe that collaboration among regulators is essential to addressing common challenges and ensuring free and high-quality information for all European citizens. This initiative further demonstrates the European partners’ continuous commitment to promoting international cooperation and fostering the development of a balanced and democratic media landscape.”
